License and insurance

California locksmith company license LCO #6970. Here is how to check it, and what to ask any locksmith before they start work.

What we are licensed to do

Dawn & The Lock holds a California locksmith company license, LCO #6970, issued by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, which is part of the California Department of Consumer Affairs. The company is bonded and insured.

Check it yourself

You do not have to take our word for it, and you should not take anyone's word for it. The state runs a public license lookup. Search our license number there and you will see the license status straight from the Department of Consumer Affairs, not from us.

What to ask any locksmith before they start

This is worth knowing whoever you end up calling, including if it is not us.

  • Ask for the company license number and look it up. In California a locksmith company is required to be licensed by the Bureau.
  • Ask for the price range on the phone, before anyone drives out, and ask what the service call costs if you decide not to go ahead.
  • Ask for the exact price on site before any work starts, not after the lock is open.
  • Expect the technician to check that the property or the vehicle is actually yours. Anyone who does not ask is a problem, not a convenience.
  • Expect a marked van, ID, and a person who will tell you their name.

Our side of it

Every technician on this team works directly for us. We do not pass your job to whoever picks up. You get the price range on the call, the exact price before work begins, and the same number to ring afterwards if something is not right.
